Beautiful You, Why I Became a Life Coach

If someone had told me when I graduated from college that I would become a Life Coach, I would have thought they were nuts.  Of course, when we graduate from college, we think our career is going to unfold like magic; we are going to find an amazing job, and mentors to help guide us, and we will never have to worry about anything again.  Wow!  What I wouldn’t give to tell my younger self what she was in for.

It was easy to decide on studying sociology and psychology in college.  I knew I wanted to understand people at a deeper level.  I wanted to understand behavior, how we interact, form relationships, and I have always been fascinated with different cultures.  I didn’t have a plan of how I would utilize this degree, but it couldn’t have fallen into place more perfectly.

Throughout my career I have been blessed to serve others through insurance sales, non-profit fundraising and development, and I spent 10 glorious years in recruiting and staffing helping people take their careers to the next level.  I reached a point in my career, like many people do, where I wanted and needed MORE.  While the desire for more was bubbling to the surface, I was also going through the biggest awakening and life transformation I had ever been through.

While checking the boxes of climbing the corporate ladder, marriage, and family, I struggled to create harmony between my personal and professional lives.  I lacked boundaries, my time management was a wreck, and my mindset was straight up abusive.  I battled anxiety, depression, and full-on burnout while my career and marriage crumbled into ruins.

Having always had a passion for personal development and a deep awareness and understanding of people in general, I was forced to reckon with my own shadow self.  The time had finally come to unpack, let go of, and heal all the hurt I had carried for my entire life.  I had reached as far as I could possibly go using familial and cultural expectations as my guide.  Now it was time to decide and commit to a more authentic and sustainable future.

It took five years to put the pieces together; to find the natural resources that I needed to not only make sense of and heal my past, but to also feel confident in building a truly fulfilling life that met all my needs.  My transformation was painful and messy.  At some point I looked at my life and realized I had always been in some type of transition and nothing in my life or college education had prepared me for how difficult it would actually be.

When I first started to wake up and realize that my life was being ruled by stress and overwhelm, I listened to a podcast that changed my life.  It was Elizabeth DiAlto’s podcast ‘Embodied’, episode 174 (2017) with Julie Parker, the CEO and Founder of the Beautiful You Coaching Academy.  The episode was all about life transitions and life coaching.

Of course, I knew I was in a major shift and life transition.  That’s why I listened to it!  But I had no idea that the piece about life coaching would pique my interest the way it did.  At the time, I had honestly never heard about life coaching, but I was fascinated.  Julie struck me as a warm, yet powerful female leader full of wisdom and integrity.  She was (and is) the type of mentor I had searched my entire life to find.  I immediately went to the Beautiful You Coaching Academy (BYCA) website and read about their training course to become a life coach.

At the time, my career was one of the components in my life that I felt needed a major makeover.  I left a job I loved to move back to Houston in hope of restoring some balance to my life and family.  I struggled to find a company I could trust where I felt I had a chance at being successful.  The BYCA course sounded amazing, but the timing just wasn’t right.  I was still heavily in transition; living with my in-laws, selling a home out of state, and renovating a house to move into.

For the next year I kept thinking about the BYCA life coaching course.  I kept visiting the website, while researching and comparing it to other programs.  Julie had made a lasting impression on me, and no other program I came across seemed to offer what BYCA did.  I spent my whole career in a stuffy, misaligned corporate environment, where I never felt like I could be my true self.  Every other program I researched seemed to be just the same; too impersonal and not quite “me”.

As things in my personal life settled, I started thinking more and more about becoming a life coach.  Things in my life had, and were still shifting.  My career in recruiting and staffing become not only monotonous, but down right soul sucking.  Although there were moments of satisfaction, I needed a new challenge.

For as long as I could remember, people came to me for advice.  They always said that I was easy to open up to, and I prided myself in holding space with no judgement for those in need.  From a young age people told me I was “wise beyond my years”.  Throughout my life and career, I realize I had always been helping to guide others on their journey.  I was confident that becoming a life coach was the next step in my journey; a journey to serve people on a deeper level.

I finally pulled the trigger in Fall 2018, and enrolled for the February 2019 course.  I am so happy I did!  The Beautiful You Coaching Academy isn’t just a life coaching training course, it’s a life coaching community full of passionate and dynamic servant leaders.

Signing up for the BYCA course was the first investment in myself and my education since earning my Bachelor’s degree.  Understandably, I was nervous, but this course and community far surpassed my expectations.  From the moment I enrolled I was given a warm welcome from the BYCA Team.  Communication from the academy and trainers was thorough yet streamlined.  The materials, content, and resources were not only functional, but also beautifully designed.  I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the course was actually divided into two parts; life coaching methodology and building a life coaching business.

The Beautiful You Coaching Academy gave me the tools, resources and confidence to expand my service to others, and build a business and life that I absolutely love.  The people I met during my training and continue to connect with after receiving my certification, are truly incredible.  BYCA takes their commitment of training life coaches and other servant leaders and healers seriously, and operated with the highest standards and ethics.

My own messy life transitions, the struggle to find a mentor or coach to assist me on my journey, my awakening to what life can truly be and all it has to offer, along with my desire to help others navigate life transitions with greater ease is what led me to become a life coach. Choosing to become a life coach and train with the Beautiful You Coaching Academy was one of the best decisions I ever made for myself.

This course changed the entire trajectory of my life for the better!  It challenged me in ways I never knew possible. It taught me the skills that allow me to help others conquer their goals, live with more passion, purpose, authenticity, courage, and freedom.  It taught me how to become the fullest expression of myself, and show others how to do the same.

I really do feel that the Universe led me to listen to that particular podcast episode for a reason.  So, if you are reading this, and have been thinking about becoming a life coach yourself, this is your divine sign!  This is your time to explore what the Beautiful You Coaching Academy can do for you, and all the ways it can change your life for the better.
